If you’re feeling sluggish, struggling with your weight or your skin has been looking spotty and greasy of late, then it’s time to look at your diet. Too much sugar in your diet can lead to a number of issues. Read on and enjoy clearer, brighter skin and a slimmer waist.
Agave nectar dates back many centuries, and is very similar to honey in taste and consistency. It is ideal for those on a low GI diet but be sure to only use half of what you would use for sugar as agave nectar still packs a high calorie count!
A Spoonful of Honey Works Wonders
Honey is a great alternative to sugar, as it has a natural sweetness and is also rich in vitamins and nutrients. It still contains a number of calories, but if used in half the quantities you would for sugar, you’ll be much better off. If you’re a sucker for cakes, swapping sugar for honey will produce a moister, tastier cake.
If you’re a sucker for sugar in your tea or you like your cocktails with a bit of sugar – then swap sugar for lemon for a zingy, sweet taste that will make you forget all about sugar. Matcha Green tea with a dash of lemon & honey is delicious and most drinks can be improved with a bit of lemon. Give it a couple of weeks and you’ll no longer miss the taste of sugar in your drinks.
Unsweetened Hot Cocoa
When you think of giving up sugar, giving up chocolate is the one thing people dread the most. However, there are some things which you can have as an alternative to a chocolate bar or your favourite hot chocolate drink – unsweetened cocoa will provide you with a great way to enjoy hot drinks without all the sugar, and you can always add a bit of honey, agave nectar or vanilla for another dash of flavour. Be sure to make your hot cocoa with Almond Milk/Coconut Milk/Oat Milk.
How many of you still put sugar on your cereal like you did as a kid? If you still like to add a bit of sweetness to your cereal, then why not try almond milk instead? Healthier than milk and adding a sweetness to your cereal, it’s a great way to break that childhood habit.
Homemade Ice Lollies
With summer coming up, you’ll be looking for some ice cold treats to help cool you down. We love making our own ice lollies using natural fruit juices and a mould rather than store bought ice creams and fruit lollies. If you want to make them a bit more interesting, you can add some alcohol too.
It’s a long road ahead in eliminating sugar from your diet but with a few clever substitutes, you won’t even miss it. In just a few weeks you will feel more alert and energetic and your confidence will soar after your skin clears and those pounds slip away.
